Crisis & Urgent Care

If you need care tonight, we can start tonight.

Carevider keeps daily capacity reserved for short-notice and emergency cases. Our 24/7 intake line is staffed by real people β€” including an on-call RN for clinical triage. Same-day care starts are routine, not exceptions.

What counts as a care crisis

It doesn't have to be 911 to be an emergency.

Most senior care crises don't look like medical emergencies β€” they look like a family suddenly unable to provide what's needed, often after a smaller event has cascaded. These are exactly the situations our same-day response is built for.

Common urgent scenarios we cover

  • Primary family caregiver is sick or hospitalized
  • Loved one discharged from ER but can't be alone
  • Sudden cognitive change with safety concerns
  • Found wandering or lost from home
  • Family arrives from out of town to crisis
  • Skilled nursing facility discharge with no plan
  • Spouse caregiver passed away or unable to continue
  • Mounting unsafe incidents β€” left stove on, fell again
How urgent intake works

From phone call to caregiver on-site, typically under 12 hours.

Triage call

Care coordinator (and on-call RN if clinical) on the phone within minutes. We assess safety and priority.

Rapid match

We identify available caregivers in your area β€” often with same-day or next-shift availability.

Care begins

Caregiver arrives, family briefs them, care starts. The RN does a follow-up visit within 24–48 hours.

Stabilize & plan

Once the crisis is contained, we build a longer-term plan β€” or step back if it's no longer needed.

What to have ready when you call

A short checklist before you dial.

None of this is required to start the call β€” we'll work with whatever you have β€” but having it ready speeds up matching and means care can start sooner.

  • Loved one's name, age, and current address
  • Brief description of what just happened
  • Primary diagnoses (dementia, heart, mobility, etc.)
  • Current medications, if known
  • Who's been providing care up until now
  • How urgent β€” hours? Tonight? Tomorrow morning?
  • Hospital or ER name if recently discharged
  • Whether anyone will be present when caregiver arrives

Coming from out of town?

Many crisis calls come from adult children who just flew in to find a parent in worse shape than expected. We can meet you at the hospital, the home, or the airport β€” and we coordinate with elder law attorneys, geriatric care managers, and placement specialists when the situation calls for it. You don't have to figure it out alone in 72 hours.

Common questions

Crisis-call questions families ask.

Can senior home care really start the same day in San Diego?
Yes β€” this is one of the things we're built for. Carevider keeps daily capacity reserved specifically for short-notice and emergency cases. For calls before noon, same-day care starts are routine. For evening calls, overnight or next-morning starts are typical. Our 24/7 intake line is staffed by real people, including an on-call RN for clinical triage when the situation has medical complexity.
Is there an emergency or weekend surcharge?
No. Crisis and after-hours care starts are billed at our standard rates β€” there is no premium for short notice, weekends, or evenings. We don't believe families in crisis should be charged extra for needing help quickly. Our San Diego rates are being finalized; see the pricing page for current figures.
What if I'm not sure whether this is a "real" emergency?
Call anyway. Our care coordinators and on-call RN do this triage every day β€” and a 10-minute phone call costs nothing. If we believe you need 911 or an ER first, we'll tell you immediately and stay on the line until help is dispatched. If it's something we can address with same-day care, we'll set that in motion. Either way you'll know within minutes.
Do you handle hospice or end-of-life urgent care?
Yes. We work alongside hospice agencies to provide the daily presence and personal care that hospice itself doesn't cover. Urgent calls for end-of-life situations β€” family unable to continue, sudden decline, last days at home β€” are some of the most common after-hours calls we take. The on-call RN can coordinate directly with your hospice team if you're already enrolled.
What happens after the immediate crisis is over?
Most crisis cases stabilize within the first 7–14 days. At that point we do a full RN reassessment and have an honest conversation with the family: continue the current care level, scale up, scale down, or transition to placement if home care is no longer the right fit. There is no obligation to continue β€” many families use us for a 1–2 week crisis bridge and then return to their normal routine.

If it feels urgent, it is. Call now.

Our 24/7 line is staffed by real people, not a callback queue. Most San Diego crisis calls result in same-day or next-morning care starts.
